Tabasco Is Releasing Its Hottest Hot Sauce Yet

Tabasco is an American classic of hot sauces, founded in 1868 in Louisiana. Generations have loved and adored the spicy pepper sauce on everything from scrambled eggs to Bloody Marys and micheladas. With eight total varieties including Garlic Pepper Sauce and Habañero Pepper Sauce already beloved, Tabasco continues to add to its lineup, and we are not prepared for its latest offering: the hottest hot sauce yet.

The Scorpion Sauce, a limited edition condiment with a name just as fiery as its ingredients, combines scorpion peppers with guava, pineapple, and a dash of original Tabasco. The result is “a tangy sauce with untamed heat and a touch of Caribbean sweetness,” according to a press release. And — here’s the part where you grab for milk and crackers — it’s nearly 20 times hotter than the Original Red Sauce.

If you’re a masochist who is never satisfied with the heat level in your regular hot sauces, you’ll want to act quickly because the Scorpion Sauce won’t be around forever. The small-batch sauce will be available exclusively online starting Wednesday, July 19, at tabasco.com and in Avery Island, Louisiana, the original home of Tabasco Sauce.

But perhaps you don’t have superhuman taste buds and prefer a slightly milder burn. In that case, you’re in luck; another new limited edition offering will also be available. The new Roasted Red Sauce is made with tabasco peppers that are slow roasted over open fire, garlic, onions, basil, and balsamic vinegar, creating a “rich, smoky sauce perfect for grilling meats, seafood, sauces and soups.” Sounds more manageable for us regular folks.

So, can you handle the heat?

Use that new sauce to make the hottest buffalo popcorn of your life:
