Serve up homegating snacks your team can’t wait to tackle with this Chicken Wings Snack Board. Fresh crispy veggies and saucy flavorful wings are a winning combination for game day or any day!
Homegating at its Best
I wish every season could be football season! Football weekends revolve around great games and even better food. And since tailgating isn’t exactly easy these days, we take our homegating very seriously. We eat, drink, cheer, repeat. One of our favorite game day snacks are messy, saucy chicken wings. And this Chicken Wings Snack Board is not only deliciously messy, it’s pretty stinkin’ cute, if I do say so myself!
Chicken Wings Made Easy
This board takes about 40 wings in two different flavors. And y’all, if you want to order wings from your favorite wing joint, I’m not here to judge. If you want to bake up your own, I’ve got you covered.
First, toss chicken wings in a large bowl with ¼ cup canola oil. Next, sprinkle with kosher salt and toss to coat evenly. Place chicken wings skin side up on the prepared baking racks.
Then bake for 40-45 minutes in a 400°F oven, rotating pans after 20 minutes from top to bottom and front to back, until golden crisp on the outside.
After you remove chicken wings from the oven, divide wings into two medium mixing bowls and immediately toss 20 of the wings in the buffalo wing sauce and 20 of the wings in the barbecue sauce. So, so easy and so, so yummy!
I’ll Take a Cold One!
You can’t watch football and eat wings without a cold beer to sip on. Whether we’re tailgating or homegating, we’re drinking from our favorite Stanley beer pints and steins. Stanley’s steins keep our drinks cold from coin toss to final whistle. I mean, if it lasts that long! And the amazing thing about the classic Stanley stein is they have a bottle opener built right into the handle. So cool and convenient!
Oh and it’s not just us adults who enjoy a cold one. The kids love drinking their juice or special occasion soda out of a Stanley mug and cup. They’re so great for keeping warm drinks warm too!
Now that you’ve poured your beer, you can build this board in a snap! (Get it? Snap? I’ve got football puns for yards, y’all). Check out this video to see how quickly it comes together.
Building the Chicken Wings Snack Board
You’ll need a large wood board or tray, two oval food baskets, and three small serving bowls for your dipping sauces.
Note: If you made the wings ahead of time or bought pre-made wings, you’ll need to keep them warm in a 200°F oven until ready to add to the board.
First, on an 18” x 12” walnut wood board, arrange two oval baskets lined with lettuce leaves or parchment paper.
Put the ranch, honey mustard, and blue cheese dressings in mini serving bowls on the board. Place the blue cheese crumbles next to the bowl of blue cheese dressing and garnish the dressing with small crumbles of blue cheese.
Arrange half of the celery in the top left corner of the board and half in the right bottom corner. Arrange half of the carrot sticks in the top left corner of the board and half in the bottom right corner. Fan cucumber slices around the bowl of ranch dressing. Pile sugar snap peas in the top right corner of the board with radish slices next to them.
Stack cheese cubes in the middle of the board with the mini sweet peppers to the left of them. Place the pickle chips in the bottom left corner of the board. Arrange the pepperoncini slices on the middle right side of the board. Stick pimento-stuffed green olives in various spots across the board.
Place the wings tossed in buffalo wing sauce in the top oval basket and the wings tossed in barbecue sauce in the bottom basket.
Put the sour cream or thick blue cheese dressing in a small squeeze bottle (or sealable plastic bag with one corner snipped off). Draw lines on the piles of wings to make the wing baskets look like footballs.
Serve and enjoy!
