The Michelin Guide to the Netherlands 2021 has officially been released, with two restaurants rising to two-star status, and eight restaurants being recognised with their first star.
This new edition includes 113 starred restaurants, two of which are existing three-star restaurants; 18 two-star restaurants (of which two are new); and 93 one-star restaurants (of which eight are new). There were also eight green Michelin stars awarded for the first time, and a number of special individual awards recognising the outstanding work of individuals.
The new two-star restaurants include Restaurant 212 in Amsterdam, where chefs Thomas Groot and Richard Van Oostenbrugge display their culinary theatre in an open air kitchen; and chef Hans Van Wolde’s countryside restaurant Brut172 in Reijmerstok, which focuses on ingredients and punchy sauces.
Eight restaurants received a one-star rating in this year’s guide, highlighting the breadth and variety of cuisine available across the Netherlands.
There were no new three-star restaurants to report, with existing restaurants De Librije in Zwolle and Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen both retaining their three-star status.
News of the new stars was already leaked at the weekend, following a technical blunder by the Michelin organisation when they adjusted which restaurants received one or more new stars in the Michelin app.
