These Two Ingredient Homemade Kit-Kats are going to blow your mind! Super easy to make, truly only two ingredients and taste way better than the store-bought kind! A fun little recipe to make with the kiddos just in time for Halloween, aka candy season!
I’m coming atcha with another super easy, fun, and tasty candy recipe just in time for Halloween! I can’t stop remaking these classics, guys. It’s too much fun.
This one is more of a semi-homemade treat in that it is only 2 ingredients. But those 2 ingredients make magic, people. Utter, divine magic.
And, this flavor combo is only the beginning. Like their packaged store-bought twin, there are so many flavor options available and you can make virtually any combination you’d like as well. The limit does not exist.
Enter: Homemade Kit-Kats. Yes PLEASE.
Making Kit-Kats
Homemade Kit-Kats have only two ingredients, as the name suggests: wafer cookies, and chocolate candy coating. See? Super simple. Between the two, there are infinite flavor options, just like the Kit-Kats you can buy at the store. When I was a kiddo, there were only strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla wafer cookies, but nowadays I see all kinds of flavors, from pumpkin spice to apple pie to lemon meringue. The world is your proverbial oyster, my young grasshopper.
Of course, for *these* original Kit-Kats, you want to find vanilla wafers with chocolate filling. I actually – no joke – found these cookies at CVS while picking up some things and they were really good! Another brand that’s been popping up in stores everywhere that has really outstanding wafer cookies (in all of the above crazy flavors I mentioned) is Voortman’s. I’ve seen them at Walmart, Safeway and Target, but Walmart by far has the most flavor options. For this original flavor, you definitely want ones with vanilla (white) wafers with chocolate filling… but again, experiment with other wafer flavors!
The second component is the chocolate candy coating! For original Kit-Kats, we’re obviously using milk chocolate as is standard, but for other options, white chocolate would be fantastic! You could even mix in a Tablespoon or two of creamy peanut butter in there… *swoons* I mean… the possibilities are making me shake with excitement!
Can you make these Kit-Kats ahead of time?
Yes! I’d make them several days ahead of time and store them airtight at room temperature to preserve the crispness of the wafer cookies.
Can these be frozen?
I haven’t tried freezing these, but because of the delicate, super flaky and thin nature of the wafer inside, I would be worried it would thaw soggy. However, it’s worth a try!
Can I use any flavor of wafer?
Absolutely! For an authentic Kit-Kat, a white wafer with chocolate filling is necessary, but you can absolutely experiment with different wafer flavors! Nowadays they have so many flavors to choose from. Top your coated Kit-Kats with sprinkles, chopped nuts, cinnamon sugar, chopped dried fruit, or another drizzle of chocolate like I did.
These Two-Ingredient Homemade Kit-Kats are sure to be a huge, crispy, crunchy, fabulously chocolaty crowd-pleaser!
Two-Ingredient Homemade Kit-Kats
These Two-Ingredient Homemade Kit-Kats are going to be the STAR of your next get-together! With only two simple ingredients, you’re going to be blown away at how EASY these tasty candies are to make at home! Experiment by switching up the wafer flavors, chocolate coating and try sprinkling on crunchy extras like sprinkles or chopped nuts on top for added fun.
Servings: 24 candies
Ingredients
- 1 package vanilla wafer cookies with chocolate filling like by Voortman’s or another brand
- 16 oz (1 package) chocolate candy coating like by Candiquik
Instructions
Line a large baking sheet with foil and set aside. Melt the chocolate candy coating according to package directions, or until smooth and melted.
Dip one of the wafer cookies into the melted chocolate and gently toss to coat using a fork. Lift the wafer cookie out of the melted chocolate by the fork and allow excess chocolate to drip off of the fork, then carefully slide the cookie off of the fork and onto the foil-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining cookies until all cookies have been dipped. With any remaining melted chocolate, I drizzled it over the Kit-Kats for a prettier presentation, but it isn’t necessary. Allow chocolate to set before serving or storing.
Notes
Experiment with different flavors of wafers and different types of candy coating and toppings for your Kit-Kats. This should be fun! Nowadays, there are tons of different, more imaginative wafer cookie flavors than ever before, like cinnamon roll, pumpkin spice, apple pie, and lemon meringue. Use those to your advantage to make fun and unique Kit-Kat flavors and dip them into melted chocolate or white chocolate! Likewise, you can add flavor mix-ins to your melted chocolate as well, like a Tablespoon of creamy peanut butter or a teaspoon of culinary matcha powder.
These crispy, crunchy, addictive semi-homemade Kit-Kats are out of this world! I just know you’re going to LOVE them!
Have a super sweet day!
