Happy (Almost) Leo Season!
Okay, so it begins tomorrow, but I like you all to be prepared in case you’re itching to kick off the festivities (and if you’re a Leo, you’ve probably already starting hanging the banners). You can celebrate Leo season by: fixing up someone’s life; being bossy; taking a million selfies; exaggerating stories; caring a little too much about your appearance; doing ridiculous things to get attention; being high maintenance; being attracted to drama, but only like, the cute drama; and being overly generous, especially when drinks are involved.
Leo is a fixed fire sign, which means they’re steady, loyal and determined, as well as energetic, impulsive, and enthusiastic like most fire signs. Fire signs practically ooze energy and are usually upbeat and positive but with a fiery kick that will definitely catch you off guard if you’re not careful. As their zodiac name suggests, the symbol for Leo is a lion and groups of lions are called a “pride.” This is no coincidence because Leos take immense pride in their appearance and have extremely high standards for themselves and others.
Leos tend to be the best organizers of the Zodiac and are here to find solutions to common problems all while entertaining us along the way. They may not like to get in there and get their hands dirty so to speak, but they’re happy to tell you what needs to be done and how to do it, often with a flair for the dramatics. After all, they’re the most entertaining sign of the Zodiac which makes them excel at things like theater, drama, arts, music, or any form of display.
When a Leo feels appreciated by you, they are notorious for giving back tenfold. They love to help and protect those who are special to them. It helps to build a Leo’s self-worth to help others they love and feel needed by those people. However, Leos can get caught up in helping others that they fail to ask for help themselves.
Expressed positively, Leos are usually trusting and loyal, loves to get attention, needs to feel special and admired by those around them; likes to show off; has extravagant or elegant taste; is popular; is a great leader; loves affection; needs excitement and some level of drama in their lives; uses charm to get what they want; and tends to be quite popular. They’re positive thinkers who exude a positive energy around them, they’re honest and generous with their money and time, is very demonstrative with their stories and gestures, even if they may seem slightly (or very) exaggerated, charming and proud of their appearance, homes, and little luxuries.
Expressed negatively, Leos can be overly concerned about status and appearance (especially on themselves); smug, conceited, arrogant and self-involved; stubborn; possesses a superiority complex; vengeful; overly eager (bordering sometimes on desperation); judgmental; and overdramatic. I once knew a Leo who would make such a huge show of laughing at my jokes that she would fall off of her chair in the middle of a crowded restaurant and scream-laugh. I am not that funny! It was more embarrassing than anything, but those Leos love putting on a show.
When I was creating cocktails for these expressive, loud lions, I wanted something that they could generously share with their many admirers, perhaps at an opulent birthday gathering in their gorgeous home. I envision the Leo guest of honor passing around miniature cups of Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots to their guests on a pretty silver platter so they could secretly steal quick glances of themselves in the shiny reflection. These Jello Shots are a great party treat, can feed a crowd, and perfectly embody the effervescent, bubbly life of the party that are Leos.

Zodiac Cocktails – Leo: Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots

These Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots are perfect for the life of the party Leos of the Zodiac in my Zodiac Cocktail Series! Easy, great for a crowd and perfectly portable, these addictive and delicious shots will steal the show!
Ingredients
- One (3 ounce) box cherry Jello
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- ½ cup tequila (I used silver tequila)
- One (3 ounce) box orange Jello
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- ½ cup tequila
Instructions
- Place about 20 (2-ounce) condiment cups on a rimmed baking sheet. Set aside.
- Mix the cherry Jello and the boiling water in a heat-safe medium bowl, stirring until dissolved. I like mixing it in a pitcher bowl so it’s easier to pour with a spout. Add in the cold water and tequila and whisk to combine. Distribute the cherry Jello mixture evenly among the condiment cups, filling about ½ way full. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- Mix the orange Jello and the boiling water in another heat-safe medium bowl, stirring until dissolved. Add in the cold water and tequila and whisk to combine. Pour the orange Jello mixture on top of the cherry Jello in the cups, filling to the top. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours to set before serving.
