Apple Pie Dip Is A Deconstructed Apple Pie Made In 30 Minutes!

I love Apple Pie, but I don’t always love making it. It’s not that it’s HARD to make, it’s just a few more steps than I sometimes feel like taking in the kitchen. So when my friends over at Imperial Sugar asked if I would create a recipe for Apple Pie DIP I had a feeling that I might be creating one of my new favorite fall treats.

Chopped apples in cinnamon caramel that you can dip in or use as a pie filling

Ingredients:

  • 4 Granny Smith Apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • 2 round pie crusts, unbaked (not in a pan)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

  1. Place the diced apples in a medium saucepan. Add in the cinnamon, brown sugar, salt, flour, and water. Stir to combine. Cook the apples on medium heat for 8 – 10 minutes until softened, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat and stir in the caramel sauce. Set aside to cool.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Whisk the egg and water together. Set aside.
  4. Unroll the pie crusts and lightly brush the tops of the dough with the egg wash.
  5. Using a pizza or pastry wheel, cut the pie dough into 2- inch triangles or rectangles.
  6. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  7. Serve with the apple pie dip, warm or at room temperature.

Can You Use Your Own Pie Crust?

ABSOLUTELY! I use a pre-made crust that you can just roll out and bake to make things easy when making the chips for my Apple Pie Dip, BUT if want to go the extra mile homemade crust is ALWAYS better.

I HIGHLY recommend you try my Pie Crust Recipe. It’s super flaky and buttery!

Can You Use Apple Pie Dip As A Pie Filling?

I don’t see why you couldn’t, although the whole point is to NOT have to make pie! BUT with that said, there is no reason this wouldn’t work in a pie.

I would only use 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce (or omit it entirely) if you plan on using this as pie filling, just so your pie isn’t too wet.

How To Store…

This can safely be stored airtight in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or can be frozen airtight for up to 30 days.
