The classic BLT sandwich is taken to the next level of deliciousness with this Build-Your-Own BLT Board covered in a variety of fresh fillings and simple spreads for everyone to build their ultimate BLT sandwich!
A good ol’ BLT sandwich is an easy go-to meal for our family, especially in the summer when tomatoes are at their best and we’re craving something light and fresh. It’s just hard to beat the combination of juicy tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and savory bacon between two slices of perfectly toasted bread with a spread of mayo. However, a beautiful board with lots of yummy extras is the perfect way to make a BLT sandwich even more exciting!
This board is perfect for a day spent hanging out with friends and family. We particularly love it on a weekend afternoon so we can really spend time enjoying each other’s company and our delicious sandwich creations, of course! A classic BLT sandwich is a total crowd pleaser to begin with so with a spread like this, you can only imagine how much everyone enjoys building their own.
There are so many ways to customize your BLT sandwich with this board!
Here are some of our favorite additions:
- Sunny-side-up eggs. The runny yolk is key here!
- Sliced avocado
- Red onions add an amazing hit of flavor!
- Grilled shrimp
- Pickles or pepperoncini peppers
- Fresh herbs, like basil or dill.
- Your favorite condiment or spread. We have mayo and dijon mustard on this board, but feel free to get creative with things like sriracha aioli or blue cheese dressing!
With all of the yummy possibilities, it might be hard to stop at just one sandwich! ?
Whether you go with the classic BLT sandwich of a generous spread of mayo on two slices of toasted bread with bacon, lettuce and tomato in between or build it from there by adding shrimp or a runny egg, deliciousness is guaranteed.
To build this board, start by baking the bacon and toasting the bread. You can toast the bread all at once by lining up the slices of bread on a baking sheet, and baking them at 400ºF for 6-8 minutes, flipping the bread halfway through.
While the bread and bacon are in the oven, I like to get started on slicing the tomatoes, onion, and avocado and prepping the lettuce.
After the bread is toasted and the bacon is baked, start cooking the eggs and the shrimp. You can boil, grill, or pan-fry the shrimp to your liking with a simple seasoning of salt and pepper. The flavor and texture of shrimp on a BLT sandwich is so good! A must-try if you like shrimp…
Now to assemble the actual board! I used our 24″ x 18″ walnut wood board for this Build-Your-Own BLT Board and small bowls like these or these for all of the spreads. I just arrange the rest of the ingredients on the wooden board. Try to keep the bread away from some of the juicier ingredients, like the tomatoes and pickles, and be sure to dry the lettuce well so that it doesn’t get soggy before everyone starts building their sandwiches.
The best part of any build-your-own meal board is the part where everyone gets to build and enjoy their delicious meal just how they like it, and maybe even try something new! This Build-Your-Own BLT Board is no exception. The excitement that builds as everyone creates their ultimate BLT sandwich is pretty amazing!
We love a good build-your-own meal and this ultimate Build-Your-Own BLT Board is one of our favorites. It’s so simple, fresh and delicious! The perfect summer lunch or dinner with the family or a group of friends!
