Bring Autumn to Your Table

It’s decorative gourd season, y’all! And what better way to bring the season to your table than by serving your dips, sides, and soups out of a real pumpkin! I love how warm and inviting a baked pumpkin bowl feels as part of the tablescape. I serve everything from a bubbly spinach dip to a cold hummus dip inside these festive pumpkin bowls. Everyone loves how they look! Baking a pumpkin bowl is really a low-key effort, and the aesthetic payoff is well worth it!

To choose a pumpkin, first decide how you’ll want to use it. Small pumpkins make great soup bowls, while slightly larger ones are best for dips or fondue that will serve a number of guests. For this recipe, I used a mini tiger-striped pumpkin, approximately four inches in diameter, perfect for individual servings of soup, or for serving dip for a small party. But choose a pumpkin that suits your purpose best! Now all you need is a hot oven and you’re in business!

First, preheat the oven to 400°F. Then cut the top off of the pumpkin to create a lid. Next, place the pumpkin, cut side up, on a parchment-lined baking sheet with the lid next to it. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Then carefully scrape out the seeds and membranes with a spoon, keeping the sides and bases intact.
