This Homemade Buffalo Sauce Recipe is easy, quick, and so delicious! Skip the store bought buffalo sauce and make your own delicious sauce at home.
For me, there is nothing better than a good sauce. Sauce is what can make food delicious and exciting! So, today I wanted to share with you how to make buffalo sauce at home. I typically put this buffalo sauce on wings, but you can use this sauce as a dip for chicken breast, veggies, and so much more!
I specifically made this buffalo sauce for wings, so try this sauce with my Baked Chicken Wings or dip my Crispy Coconut Chicken Tenders into this sauce! It would also be delicious on a burger like my California Club Burger. Pair it with my Greek Yogurt Ranch and you’ll be in buffalo wing heaven!
Ingredients
- Butter– you’ll want your butter to be melted, but just barely. Don’t go overboard when heating it up.
- Frank’s Hot Sauce– This is my favorite hot sauce to use for buffalo sauce. I recommend going with Frank’s Hot Sauce, but if you choose a different one just make sure the base is cayenne peppers.
- Honey– Honey will balance the spice and add a nice flavor.
- Worcestershire Sauce– this adds a savory depth to the flavor of the sauce.
- Salt
- Smoked Paprika– I like to add smoked paprika to my buffalo sauce. You don’t have to add it, but I recommend trying it!
Here’s How You Make Buffalo Sauce
Step by Step Instructions
- Stir together all of the ingredients. The butter will be slightly warm and help to mix all of the ingredients together.
- Allow the sauce to cool for about 30 minutes. It will thicken up as it cools.
- Serve immediately by coating your wings or setting on the side as a dip. You can store your sauce in the fridge for up to 1 week. Reheat gently on the stove before serving again.
Why This Recipe Works
Packed with flavor: Buffalo sauce is generally butter and hot sauce mixed together. I like to add some additional ingredients to balance out the flavors and make this sauce as flavorful as possible!
Smooth texture: The butter in this homemade buffalo sauce makes the texture so smooth and creamy. It will also coat your wings perfectly!
Super easy: You don’t need to heat this up on the stovetop, just stir everything together with the warm butter and it’ll come together in no time!
What is The Difference Between Hot Sauce and Buffalo Sauce?
Homemade buffalo sauce recipes are usually made up of hot sauce and butter to make a creamier hot sauce. Buffalo sauce is richer and smoother, which makes for a better eating experience. I wouldn’t coat my chicken wings with just hot sauce, but coating them in buffalo sauce provides the perfect balance of spicy, creamy and tangy!
Expert Tips and Tricks
- Use Frank’s Hot Sauce for the best results. Trust me, almost every recipe for buffalo sauce calls for Frank’s Hot Sauce and there is a good reason for it. If you have a favorite hot sauce that isn’t Frank’s, then definitely give it a try and see how it turns out!
- If you like an extra spicy buffalo sauce, add additional cayenne pepper spice to this recipe! The smoked paprika I added has a little bit of spice, but not much.
- I think that this sauce comes out as a good consistency, but if you want your sauce to be thicker, then you can add a cornstarch slurry to it and let it heat on low on the stovetop for a few minutes.
