Greek food is known for its flavorful herbs and spices, fresh ingredients, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. This Greek feast recipe is perfect for those nights when you want to impress your dinner guests with something special. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 lb. ground lamb
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp. dried oregano
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 4 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 lb. large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup white wine
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup Kalamata olives, pitted and chopped
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, combine the lamb, onion, garlic, oregano, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, salt, pepper, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix well and shape into 1-inch balls.
3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and brown on all sides. Transfer to the baking dish.
4. In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and sauté until just pink, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
5. To the same skillet, add the lemon juice, white wine, and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer and cook until reduced by half, about 5 minutes. Pour over the meatballs in the baking dish.
6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through.
7. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together the parsley, dill, mint, feta cheese, and olives.
8. When the meatballs are done, remove the baking dish from the oven and add the shrimp on top. Sprinkle with the herb mixture. Serve hot.
