Do You Believe in Unicorn Magic?

Rainbows, glitter, and unicorns, oh my! My little Brookie has such a whimsical heart. She just loves all things pretty and fantastical. And I loved surprising her with this Unicorn Magic Birthday spread for her fifth birthday. Every inch of this spread (and every bite!) absolutely delighted Brookie and her guests. A unicorn-shaped cake pan (with a celery-stick unicorn horn!) turns ordinary veggies into fantastical finger foods. A rainbow of bright colorful fruits and marshmallow clouds come complete with a pot of gold. It made this birthday girl’s dreams come true right before her eyes! Just look at Brookie’s face!

Part of the magic of this pretty spread is just how simple it truly is. You can put as little or as much elbow grease as you want into personalizing this fun spread. We picked up Brookie’s favorite chicken nuggets, fries, and an array of sauces and I ordered the custom cookies from @mary_the_third_(totally give her a look, if you’re in the Dallas area!). Her cookies are just adorable.

Prep the spread

First, decorate the space with festive unicorn and magical decorations. I found these adorable mini unicorn pinatas and pink plastic tablecloth at Target). Then bake chicken nuggets and fries according to package instructions. Or, hit the drive thru at Chik-Fil-A for the chicken nuggets like we did! Once the variety of fries are finished baking, arrange them all on one baking sheet. Keep them and the chicken nuggets warming in a 200℉ oven until ready to serve the spread. Wash and prep all fruits and veggies.

Make the Rainbow Fruit Tray

The rainbow fruit tray is so, cute and so, so easy y’all. First, make the red arc with quartered strawberries and raspberries by arranging them on the outside of a large round serving tray. Create the orange arc inside of the red arc with clementine slices. Mango chunks (or pineapple) make up the yellow arc. Create the green arc with diced kiwi and halved green grapes. Place blueberries on the tray for the blue arch. Make the purple arc with halved red grapes. Finally, place mini marshmallows on the tray to create the clouds at the ends of the rainbow. Ta-da!

Unicorn Veggie Tray

First, fill a unicorn cake pan with broccoli florets, yellow snacking tomatoes, petit carrots, red snacking tomatoes and cauliflower florets. Arrange them in colorful rows like the picture below.

To make the unicorn’s eye, first slice a whole black olive in half. Then use one half for the eye by placing it on top of the cluster of cauliflower florets near the top. Add a tiny piece of cauliflower on top of the black olive half to create the pupil of the eye. Slice the other half of the olive into three slivers and place them above the olive half to create the eyelashes of the unicorn.

To create the unicorn’s horn, cut a celery stick at a pointed angle. Then place it extending out the top of the pan, tucking it in just under the broccoli to keep it in place.

Lay out the Spread

While your chicken and French fries stay warming in the oven, fill star bowls with hummus and ranch. Then place Rolo candies in another bowl. Fill small bowls with dipping sauces for the nuggets and fries. I used ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, and barbecue sauce, but use whatever your guests would enjoy most!

When you’re ready to serve, place the warm chicken nuggets on a serving tray and pull the baking sheet of fries from the warm oven. Arrange all of the magical snacks on the spread space. Serve, and enjoy the magic!
