How to make Loaded Green Bean Casserole with Cheese and Bacon

  1. Blanch the green beans and place into iced water.
  2. Whisk together the soup, milk and seasonings and whisk in the cheese.
  3. Pour over the green beans and transfer to a casserole dish.
  4. Top with cheese and bake.
  5. Top with bacon pieces and fried onions and cook til browned.

Can you make green bean casserole ahead of time?

Yes! This is a great make ahead dish. You can make up the sauce and add to the casserole with the beans, then cover and keep refrigerated for up to 2 days. When ready, top with cheese and bake as per the recipe.

How long does green bean casserole keep?

If you have leftovers, they will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days. The onions will soften a little, but it will still be good to eat. Reheat it in the oven at 350F for 10 to 15 minutes to warm through.

Can you make green bean casserole with frozen beans?

Yes! Frozen beans work great with this recipe. Blanch them as you would fresh, just for an additional minute til tender.

Can you make casserole with canned green beans?

If you prefer, canned green beans can also be used in this casserole. There’s no need to blanch them, just mix them with the mushroom soup mix and pour into the dish to bake.
