Whipped Milk: Three Ways | Creme De La Crumb

It’s time to celebrate one of my most favorite days of the entire year: Mother’s Day. I love celebrating the women who have raised, influenced, and inspired me throughout my life, and of course I love celebrating the three precious kiddos who call me Mama every day. 

Today I am sharing a fun and simple recipe for Whipped Milk. Have you heard of it? Tried it even?? It’s the up and coming uber-gram-able treat that everyone is talking about and the instant I saw it I knew I had to make my own with real milk. Plus, it made for the perfect activity while spending time at home and celebrating with my kids.

How can I resist a glass of iced milk topped with fluffy and decadent sweet whipped cream flavored with the magic of nut butters and whimsical flavorings like strawberry powder? Well, spoiler, I couldn’t resist. And neither could my kids because as soon as they watched a video of someone making whipped milk, they begged for a glass of their own.

Now, don’t forget that I have three children and though two of them are twins, don’t be misled, their tastes are very different and could not settle on just one flavor between them. So naturally, we made three versions. Each one inspired by one of my littles. And I didn’t mind one bit getting to sample the whole lot of them. 

I welcome any opportunity to dress up a glass of milk in a fun way that will get them excited about getting protein and calcium from dairy milk. They love milk so this whipped milk treat was an easy sell. If the flavored cream wasn’t enough to get them on board, dipping the glasses in corresponding garnishes absolutely sent their excitement over the top and they had so much fun nibbling the treats off the edge of their cups between drinking the milk. It makes a mama happy to see her kids getting nutrients they need amidst giggles and whipped cream smudged noses.

How do you make whipped milk?

If you’ve ever whipped your own cream you will feel sheepish wondering how it never occurred to you to make this treat before because it is simply whipping cream with a flavoring. Add something like peanut butter or powdered flavorings or syrup to your heavy cream, and whip away until it’s fluffy and light. The process of whipping cream goes a whole lot faster if you use very cold cream, a chilled bowl, and an electric mixer. You can absolutely do it by hand, but your arm will thank you if you use something with a plug. (Then again, you may just want to welcome the arm workout and call it your exercise for the day.)

What kinds of flavorings can you use for whipped milk?

I tried three different flavorings and they all turned out incredibly tasty. I used dried strawberry milk powder, for my four year old daughter of course who begged for “pink milk” and would settle for nothing less. I also made hazelnut whipped milk using Nutella (which was honestly my very favorite if I had to pick one) and then I also tried mint chocolate cocoa powder which worked great too! So many ways you could go with this, even extracts and syrup would be great additions to your whipped milk.

  • 2 tablespoons hazelnut spread, hot chocolate powder, or strawberry milk flavoring
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, very cold
  • 8 ounces dairy milk
  • ice cubes
  • In a chilled bowl, combine heavy cream, sugar, and your choice of flavoring.

  • Whip with an electric mixer until mixture is light and fluffy.

  • Fill a glass with milk and ice, top with whipped cream and serve.
